|DISCOVER THE HISTORY AS DUNLITE TURNS 75!
Dunlite Power Equipment was founded by Lloyd Brooks Dunn, a man who began his career in the backyard of a rented property, producing wind generating sets using converted generators from old motor vehicles. He quickly expanded his business and in 1936 moved to a premises in Adelaide and officially opened Dunlite Elec. Co. Ltd with a staff of four.
The Dunlite brand quickly gained recognition across South Australia, as more wind generators were produced and sold. The business expanded to include belt driven alternators and D.C motors and a sales distribution network was established. The premises was extended to include a show room and a factory as the range of generators continued to grow.
In 1953 a complete new range of 1000 – 1750 Watt Dunlite generators were produced using t D.C engines and in 1959 production and staff were increased to meet demand. Portable generators were becoming increasing popular and in 1961 a 3.5kVA petrol generating set was manufactured. Over the next 5 years both single and 3 phase generators became available and the factory had to be extended once again to cope with increased production.
Lloyd Dunn remained the owner/director until 1970 when the company merged with Davey to become Davey-Dunlite. In 1977 Davey-Dunlite was brought by Philips and resumed the identity of Dunlite. Since the 1980’s Dunlite has been owned by a number of different companies and in 2002 Welling & Crossley took ownership of the brand to become the Dunlite Power Equipment you see today. Just as it was in the past, the Dunlite Brand continues to grow and expand through new products and technology.
With such a strong and reputable history we are extremely proud to carry the Dunlite name forward into the future. Happy 75th Birthday Dunlite Power Equipment!
